Big Sky Area Info

You’re getting away to the mountains. You’ve already pictured it in your mind. But you haven’t decided which mountains. They have to be grand, awe-inspiring, wide-open and glistening under a big blue sky. Sounds like Big Sky, Montana.

Big Sky, a community of around 3,000, sprawls through the trees of Gallatin National Forest. The community encompasses two main sections: The Meadow and The Mountain.

The Meadow: Braided with streams and meandering residential streets, the Meadow contains many of the community’s 25 eateries and 40 shops. The Town Center and Meadow Village Center serve as the culture hubs of Big Sky, hosting numerous events, including the Music in the Mountains summer concert series, the Classical Festival and the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival.

The Mountain: At the base of the 11,166 foot Lone Peak, Big Sky and Moonlight Basin resorts form the Mountain section of Big Sky. From the Mountain Village, ski lifts provide access to the 5,750 acres of Big Sky skiing. Mountain Village also gives access to the Lone Peak Tram, which reaches the very summit of Lone Peak, and awes riders with views of three states and two National Parks. From the Mountain Village, visitors also access the lodging and entertainment venues of Big Sky and Moonlight Basin resorts.
